3 Best Destinations for Marlon Mack as the Indianapolis Colts Search for a Trade Partner

The Indianapolis Colts are looking for a trade partner after trading Marlon Mack to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Here’s a list of three destinations where he could be headed.

Marlon Mack is one of the best running backs in the NFL. With the Indianapolis Colts’ trade deadline quickly approaching, it’s time to look at some possible destinations for him.

The Indianapolis Colts have decided to part ways with running back Marlon Mack, who was a healthy inactive in Week 3 and has had little action in the 2021 season as Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines have taken over in the backfield.

The Colts will now go into the trade market to see what is available. Mack missed the 2020 season due to an Achilles injury, but before that, he rushed for 1,000 yards in 2019 and came up just short in 2018.

If given a chance, Mack may still be able to contribute, and some clubs have already been dealt significant blows at the running back position. Here are three organizations that should call Mack to ask about his services. All three of them would be fantastic opportunities for Mack to show off his abilities.

Miami Dolphins, No. 3

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Colts and Mack have agreed to look for a trade partner.

This would be a bit of a homecoming for Mack, who played collegiate football at the University of Southern Florida and had a successful career there. The Dolphins are now platooning Myles Gaskin and Malcolm Brown to an unsatisfactory degree.

Gaskin had his most productive game of the season against the Raiders, with 13 carries for 65 yards. He has just 139 yards on 27 runs this season and has yet to score. Brown, on the other hand, has just 17 carries for 68 yards and one touchdown. The Dolphins’ other two running touchdowns have come from quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Jacoby Brissett.

The Dolphins, who were on the cusp of making the playoffs in 2020, are 0-2 so far, and their inability to run the ball has been apparent. Mack would have a great opportunity to get some weekly touches and resurrect his career in the Sunshine State.

New York Jets, No. 2

What a disappointment in the running back room.

The Jets’ running backs have been a major source of frustration for everyone. Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson, and rookie Michael Carter are the only players on the team who have not yet surpassed the 100-yard mark this season. Carter, in fact, tops the bunch with 89 yards on 24 carries.

The Jets have been abysmal on offense, and part of it may be attributed to their inability to run the ball at even a mediocre pace. At 80 running yards a game, they are 29th in the NFL, and Mack would at the very least bring in some fresh legs and a hungry mindset.

New Jets head coach Robert Saleh can’t afford to keep losing games, and Mack is at the very least worth a gamble or a late-round draft selection to see what he has left in the tank.

1. The 49ers of San Francisco

According to a source, the 49ers are bringing in free-agent running backs Duke Johnson and Lamar Miller for visits since their backfield is injured.

Kyle Shanahan is a huge fan of running backs.

Unfortunately for Shanahan, the 49ers’ running back room has had a string of bad luck with injuries before October even arrived. Raheem Mostert had season-ending knee surgery, JaMycal Hasty was put on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain, Trey Sermon was a healthy scratch in Week 1 but was unproductive after that, and Elijah Mitchell, a surprise rookie, is also struggling with a shoulder issue.

The 49ers have been in such a mess that they had to give the ball to fullback Kyle Juszczyk five times and target him four times via the air against the Green Bay Packers.

Is Mack the one who will finally push them over the edge? Probably not, but he would at least bring in a new guy who has a chance to shine in Shanahan’s system.

Mack in red and gold would be a great fit for both teams, and we all know the 49ers could use some depth. For their apparent need at running back, the 49ers are the logical option, and Marlon Mack could come in and receive touches right away for a club with playoff hopes.
