Which Players Have the Best Odds to Win Defensive Player of the Year?

The Defensive Player of the Year Award is given to the best defensive player in each league. In order to find out which players have the best odds, we need to calculate a few things first.

The 2020 nfl defensive player of the year is a question that has been asked by many people. There are currently four players that have the best odds to win Defensive Player of the Year.

The regular season of the NFL in 2021 is only weeks away, and oddsmakers are still adjusting their odds for sports bettors. As a handful of excellent first-year players are expected to get a lot of playing time as rookies, the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year title is up for grabs.

Let’s take a look at the early favorites and the odds that each person has of winning the award in 2021, according to Las Vegas oddsmakers.

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons (+550)

Micah Parsons is the early favorite to earn Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021 in Vegas. The Dallas Cowboys selected him 12th overall, and he is expected to make an immediate impact on a defense that struggled in 2020.

Parsons’ talent was never in doubt, and it has already showed in the preseason. In the Hall of Fame game, his speed and athleticism were on full show.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Parsons said, “That was why I was selected here, to go sideline to sideline.”

Any defensive coordinator’s goal is to have a guy that can fly over the field and has a good football sense. Parsons matches that description and will be largely depended upon to alter the defensive unit’s dynamic.

This season, all eyes will be on the Cowboys, paving the way for Parsons to be a strong candidate for the award.

Jamin Davis quickly up the draft boards ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft. The Washington Football Team chose him with the 19th overall selection.

During the 2020 college football season, Davis had a breakthrough year. With 102 tackles, he led the Kentucky Wildcats. His productivity, along with his exceptional athleticism, makes him an intriguing addition to this defense.

Davis has already clinched the starting middle linebacker position, according to the Washington Post, and has received high accolades from head coach Ron Rivera.

Rivera stated, “He put the pads on and just continued running into people.” As if Washington’s defense needed to be strengthened.

Washington is expected to have one of the best defensive groups in the league by 2021, with perhaps the best front seven in the league. Davis may be the front-runner if they perform as well as anticipated.

Miami Dolphins (+1000) outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips

To get to his NFL goal, Jaelan Phillips didn’t have to travel far. He was selected No. 18 overall by the Miami Dolphins out of the University of Miami (FL).

Phillips’ training camp has been hindered by ailments, so he’s off to a sluggish start. According to the Palm Beach Post, the edge rusher is expected to return soon. He should start for the Dolphins because of his raw potential. If he can come up to speed quickly, he may have an immediate effect in Miami.

Phillips may be utilized in a variety of ways due to his stature and agility. He can either stand like an outside linebacker or put his hand on the ground and pressure the quarterback from there.

The Dolphins defense outperformed expectations in 2020, and they want to continue that trend in the next season. Keep an eye out for the injury, but the former Hurricane is set to have a breakout rookie season.

Indianapolis Colts (+1200) defensive end Kwity Paye

Another notable name from the deep draft class of edge rushers in 2021 is Kwity Paye. He, too, has missed a part of training camp due to injury, as has Phillips. Due to an ankle injury, he missed the preseason opener.

Paye has returned to practice, according to USA TODAY’s Colts Wire. That’s fantastic news for the Colts, since their front seven is their defense’s lifeblood. The Michigan product is expected to play a key role on the defensive line.

Paye was lauded for his power-rushing skills before to the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s been working on his speed moves throughout camp, and it may pay off big time for Indianapolis.

The Colts defense is quick and flies to the ball, which leads to a high number of turnovers. It also helps to have established players on the field like DeForest Buckner and Darius Leonard. They’ll draw a lot of attention, which will provide Paye more one-on-one time.

Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II (+1200)

Patrick Surtain II came into the NFL with a proven track record. His father played the same position as his namesake in the NFL for 11 seasons. However, the younger Surtain is already forging his own way.

The ninth overall selection out of Alabama made a strong first impression on the field. Surtain’s first interception came in the Broncos’ preseason opener, and he carried it all the way to the house.

His colleagues are also gushing about the rookie cornerback. According to the Broncos’ official website, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater stated, “PS2 – he don’t play no games.”

Football is Surtain’s passion. I.Q. and instincts significantly beyond those of a typical rookie defensive back. He has obvious skill, and Vic Fangio’s defense will give him every chance to create plays. His ability to make an impact in coverage and as a tackler puts him in a strong position to win DROY.
