Dwyane Wade Used His $170 Million Net Worth to Buy a Piece of the Utah Jazz and Now His Son Is Joining the Organization

Dwyane Wade, a retired NBA player who is now a part owner of the Utah Jazz, has been making waves in the sports world. He recently purchased a piece of the team with his $170 million net worth and now his son is joining as an intern.

Dwyane Wade used his $170 million net worth to buy a piece of the Utah Jazz and now his son is joining the organization.

Zaire Wade’s plan to reclassify to the Class of 2021 didn’t pan out as smoothly as he had planned. Last year, the son of former NBA player Dwyane Wade enrolled at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire with the hopes of impressing college scouts. Instead, he was sidelined for the most of the season due to a damaged ligament in his ankle. Now, he’ll try to revive his professional career in the NBA G-League with a team near to home.

Wade, 19, is expected to join with the G-League and play for the Salt Lake City Stars, according to sources. The Utah Jazz’s G-League affiliate is the Dallas Stars. In April 2021, his father purchased a minority ownership interest in the Jazz. But, before anybody accuses Zaire of nepotism, keep in mind that he is a long way from making an NBA squad.

Dwyane Wade’s path to joining the Jazz ownership group

According to SI.com, the Utah Jazz revealed in April that Dwyane Wade had acquired a share in the team and intended to play an active role.

Outside of my basketball expertise, I contribute a lot to this relationship as a businessman, entrepreneur, and investor,” Wade stated at the time. “I’m ecstatic to be a part of taking the Utah Jazz to the next level.”

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Wade has a net worth of $170 million. He made $196.4 million over his 16-year NBA career. The bulk of the money came from Wade’s six-year contract with the Miami Heat, which he signed in 2010. Before returning to Miami for a final trip, he also played for the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Ryan Smith, the team’s governor, sent the link to the Jazz. In the year 2020, Smith bought a controlling stake in the franchise. Wade and Smith play golf together often, and their business collaboration grew out of that.

None of those facts, at least on the surface, had anything to do with Zaire Wade’s decision to join Utah’s G-League club.

Zaire Wade is on his way up the G-League ladder.

Even before stepping onto the court for the first time as a professional, Zaire Wade was a well-traveled basketball player. He attended Mount Carmel High School in Chicago for his freshman year before attending American Heritage School in Miami for two years.

He was a teammate of Bronny James at Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles for the 2019–20 season. Their dads, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James, played together for portions of five NBA seasons with the Heat and Cavaliers, respectively.

Wade is a combo guard, according to 247 Sports. Wade, a 6-foot-3 left-hander with offers from South Carolina, Rhode Island, and Toledo, was rated in the top 300 nationally.

The Salt Lake City Saltdogs kick off their season on November 5th against the Oklahoma City Blue. After a 4–11 season on the Orlando bubble in 2020–21, Nathan Peavy is in his second season as the Stars’ head coach.

It’s a very different path to the NBA than his father took. Wade attended Marquette University in Milwaukee for three years after excelling at Richards High School in Oak Lawn, Illinois. As a junior in 2003, he led the Golden Eagles to the Final Four before declaring for the NBA draft. Wade was the fifth overall selection and is counting down the days before he is eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2023.

Zaire Wade’s path to the NBA is considerably more difficult.

According to the NBA’s website, almost half of the NBA players spent time in the G-League prior to the start of the season.

Any NBA club may call up G-League players. The majority of players enter the NBA on 10-day contracts, either as injury replacements or to cover roster slots left by trades.

Even if Dwyane Wade is a minority owner in Utah, it doesn’t mean Zaire is guaranteed anything. To begin with, the Jazz are an NBA contender. Last season, the Jazz had the best record in the NBA before falling in the Western Conference playoffs to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Utah also has a strong backcourt, with two-time All-Star Donovan Mitchell and veteran point guard Mike Conley leading the way. Jordan Clarkson, the Sixth Man of the Year, Joe Ingles, an Australian sharpshooter, and Royce O’Neal, a strong defender, are all on the Jazz’s roster. Trent Forrest, another guard on a two-way deal, has excelled in camp, as has Jared Butler’s second-round selection.

Yes, due to his father, Zaire has ties to the Utah Jazz. However, although being the boss’s child may get you a job in an office mailroom, this is the NBA. Dwyane Wade’s name won’t matter if Zaire Wade can’t provide the goods.

Spotrac provided contract details.
