Browns RB D’Ernest Johnson Waited His Turn, but Now It’s His Time to Shine Due to Cleveland’s Unfortunate Luck: ‘Next Man Up’

The Browns have been one of the most unfortunate teams in recent history, having suffered through a series of injuries to their star players. D’Ernest Johnson is one such player who has waited his turn, but now it’s his time to shine due to Cleveland’s unfortunate luck.

The njoku injury update is a blog about the Browns’ running back D’Ernest Johnson. He waited his turn, but now it’s his time to shine due to Cleveland’s unfortunate luck.

The Cleveland Browns offense has been ravaged by injuries in recent weeks, particularly in the backfield. Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt will not play against the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football. As a result, D’Ernest Johnson will be the next man up. His improbable path to the NFL had prepared him for this very moment.

Johnson will have to step up in Week 7 with Baker Mayfield also sidelined.

D’Ernest Johnson was a standout at the University of South Florida.

D’Ernest Johnson went to Immokalee High School in Florida for high school football. Coming out of the 2014 class, he was ranked as a three-star running back by 247 Sports.

Several prominent college football teams, including Georgia, Ole Miss, and North Carolina, offered Johnson scholarships. Instead, he chose to remain at home and attend the University of South Florida.

With the Bulls, the 5-foot-10, 208-pound running back had a fruitful career. In four seasons, he ran for 1,796 yards and 16 touchdowns. As a receiver and kick returner, Johnson was a dynamic player. He was the program’s all-time leader in all-purpose yards when he graduated from South Florida.

Johnson didn’t play for a Power Five institution, thus he went unnoticed on a national level. However, while sharing a backfield with Marlon Mack, he made major contributions to the Bulls football team.

During a year off, the Browns running back worked as a fisherman.

De’Ernest Johnson was undrafted despite his outstanding performance at South Florida. Few NFL clubs were interested in signing the Florida native.

According to the Browns official website, Johnson was out of football for the 2018 season and ended up working as a fisherman to make ends meet. In Key West, Florida, he was hunting mahi-mahi. He’s now concerned about NFL defenders pursuing him.

Johnson made every effort to return to the game after taking a year off. Before the Alliance of American Football’s short existence, he was a member of the league.

Johnson finished the season as the AAF’s running and scrimmage yards leader. His performance was recognized by the Cleveland Browns, who asked him to a minicamp trial. The club welcomed him back for training camp when a place on the depth chart became available.

Johnson wowed the coaches and was named to the last roster slot for the next NFL season.

In the wake of the Browns’ injuries, Johnson is ready to step up.

When the Browns are healthy, they have the most deadly 1-2 punch at running back in the NFL. The issue is that they aren’t healthy.

In Week 5, Nick Chubb sustained a calf injury that forced him to miss the next game. He’ll also be unavailable for Thursday Night Football. Kareem Hunt, Chubb’s running partner, also sustained a calf injury in Week 6.

Kareem Hunt has been put on injured reserve by the Browns, which means he will miss at least three games. With Chubb and Hunt out of the picture, D’Ernest Johnson has a chance to shine.

The 25-year-old is making his NFL debut, but he seems unfazed by the spotlight. He expressed his excitement by saying, “I’m really thrilled.” “Getting a chance to start for the first time is always a dream come true.”

He ran the ball 37 times for 187 yards and zero touchdowns prior to the 2021 season. He also had nine receptions for 85 yards. Kevin Stefanski will most likely work with a committee, but Johnson will get plenty of chances.

It’s simply next guy up for D’Ernest Johnson. He replied, “I’ve learnt a lot.” “We all have faith in each other.” All we have to do now is go out and execute. That happens once a week. “Nothing changes.”

Pro Football Reference provided all stats.

‘I don’t know who the tackle is, but I’m going to kill him,’ says Broncos star Von Miller in a chilling warning to Baker Mayfield and the Browns.
