Age of Empires 4 Grouping Explained: How to Assign Unit Groups, Remove Units

In order to assign a unit group you first need to know how many players are participating in the game. For example, if there is a 1v1 and 2v2 match, then each player would be assigned their own individual team. If it’s an 8v8 or 16 v16 match, both teams will be grouped together as one large team.

The “age of empires 2 control groups” is a feature that allows players to assign units to groups. The player can then use the groups to set up tactics and formations for their armies.

To its tried-and-true RTS format, Age of Empires 4 adds a few new elements. Grouping, or arranging units into groups, is a wonderful method to handle actions and movements without having to double-click or draw a box around all of the units in a single region.

During battle, grouping is particularly useful when you want certain unit types to strike from high ground or flank susceptible areas of an opponent army. With two simple clicks, you may have units of cavalry rush down footsoldiers, or longbowmen rain arrows from above.

Select the units you want to join together to make a group. After that, press any number 1-9 while holding CTRL. You may use the numbers across the top of your keyboard or the Numpad to accomplish this.

These units are now grouped together, and a little number above each unit indicates which cluster it belongs to. By glancing at the symbol in the middle-left corner of the screen, you can see the group, its number, and how many troops are allocated to it. The unit make-up of the symbol may be seen by hovering over it.

Finally, by double-pressing the correct number on the map, you may go to certain groups. A single tap on the number chooses the grouping.

Things may become a little tangled when two batches are allocated the same number, entirely undermining the mechanic’s purpose. So, how can you get rid of them?

To remove units from a group, the group must be completely dissolved. Hold CTRL and press the number allocated to the group while clicking a blank space on the map. The number above the troops will vanish, indicating that the grouping has disbanded.

Outside of the population restriction, there is no limit to how many units may be in a single cluster, however it is recommended to create clusters depending on strengths and strategy. Otherwise, there’s no compelling reason to utilize it. Unless you’re playing for practice, it’s just as simple to bombard your adversary with a single, enormous army on any level lower than intermediate.

That’s essentially all there is to know about Age of Empires 4 groups and groupings. You now have another strategic tool at your disposal to help you change the tide of war or just better manage your people.
